What HD means here, and who it's for
HD is not a filter. It is a pixel count. On this page the HD button gives your photo a long edge of 1920 pixels, the width of a Full HD (1080p) screen. The 4K button gives it a long edge of 3840 pixels. Your photo keeps its own shape: nothing is cropped and no bars are added, so a portrait shot comes out 1920 pixels tall, not 1920 wide.
To get there, the AI sharpens edges, removes noise and cleans up compression blocks while it enlarges the photo to your chosen size. That is the difference from a plain resize, which only stretches the pixels you have. The new detail is the model's best guess, not detail the camera recorded, so compare it with your original before you use it.
Use it to make photo HD when an old phone picture, a screenshot or a saved thumbnail looks soft on a large screen.

How to make photo HD in three steps
- 1
Choose your photo
Select, drop or paste a JPG, PNG or WebP file up to 20 MB. One photo at a time; HEIC files from an iPhone need to be exported as JPG first.
- 2
Pick HD or 4K and press Upscale
HD is selected by default. The first run downloads a 2.4 MB model and a runtime of about 28 MB, which your browser keeps for next time.
- 3
Compare, then download
Drag the before and after slider to check faces, text and edges. Download the result. For a JPG, turn on Save as JPG and press Upscale again.
Before you make photo HD
- Start from the largest copy you have, because the model works with what the file holds.
- If the long edge is already 1920 px or more, pick 4K: the tool tells you when a photo is bigger than the target and never shrinks it.
- Export iPhone photos as JPG first, since HEIC files are not supported.
- Choose PNG to keep a transparent background, or Save as JPG when the file has to be small.
- Compare faces on the slider after upscaling, and open the downloaded file to see them at full size, because skin can come out smoother than in the original.
- Check small text and logos too, since letters that were already blurry can change shape.
- Download before you close the tab, because results are not saved anywhere.
