Terms of Service

The ground rules for using Image Upscaling: what the upscaler does, what you may do with the results, and the limits of our responsibility.

Last updated: 2026-10-28

These terms form an agreement between you and the people who run Image Upscaling at imageupscaling.org ("we", "us"). By using the site you accept them along with our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.

What the tool does

You choose an image and an output size, and an open-source AI model (Real-ESRGAN, or plain pixel scaling on the pixel art page) enlarges it inside your own browser. The model sharpens edges and fills in texture by estimating what the larger picture should look like. That estimate can be wrong: faces may look smoother, small text may change shape, and the result is never a recovery of detail the original didn't contain. Compare the result with your original before you rely on it.

Free to use, on your own device

The upscaler is free and needs no account. Because it runs on your device, how fast it is and how large an image it can produce depend on your browser, memory and graphics chip. We may change, limit or remove outputs at any time.

Features marked "coming soon"

Some outputs are listed before they work, so we can see who needs them. Picking one opens a form to join a waitlist instead of processing your image. Joining is optional, costs nothing, and is no promise that the feature will launch or by when.

Images you use with the tool

Only use images you have the right to use, and don't use the tool for anything illegal where you or we are, for sexual content involving minors, or to create images meant to deceive, defame or harass someone. Your images stay on your device; you keep every right to them.

The results

The upscaled images are yours to use however the original allowed, personally or commercially. We claim nothing in them. Upscaling doesn't change who owns the original: enlarging someone else's photo doesn't give you rights to it.

Things not to do

  • Break the law or other people's rights through the site.
  • Overload the site, scrape it, probe it for weaknesses, or flood the waitlist.
  • Present the service as your own or resell it without our written permission.

Our content and open-source parts

The site's design, text and logo belong to us. The AI model (Real-ESRGAN, BSD-3-Clause) and the runtime that runs it (ONNX Runtime Web, MIT) are open-source projects published under their own licenses.

Changes, suspension and ending access

We may change, pause or end any part of the site. If you break these terms, we may block your access without notice.

No guarantees

The site is provided "as is" and "as available". We don't promise it will always work, be error-free, or produce a result that suits your purpose.

Our liability

As far as the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses such as lost profits, data or opportunities. Our total liability for any claim connected with the site is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or USD 50, whichever is more. Nothing here removes rights your local law gives you that can't be waived.

Changes to these terms

When these terms change, the date at the top changes with them. Using the site after that means you accept the new version.
