How Image Upscaling upscales your images on your own device, and the small amount of data the site itself handles.
Last updated: 2026-10-28
Image Upscaling (imageupscaling.org) enlarges images with an AI model that runs inside your web browser. Because the work happens on your own device, there is very little for us to collect. This page explains what that little is, why we need it, who else is involved and how long anything is kept. "We" and "us" means the people who run imageupscaling.org.
The short version
- The image you pick is processed on your device and is never sent to our servers or to any AI company. We can't see it, store it or train anything on it.
- The upscaled result exists only in your browser tab until you download it. Close the tab and it is gone.
- If you choose to join a waitlist for a feature that isn't ready yet, we keep the email address you type and the answer you pick, and use them only to tell you when that feature works.
- There are no accounts and no sign-up. Outside the optional waitlist we never ask for your name or email.
Your images
When you select, drop or paste an image, your browser reads the file and runs the upscaling model locally (using your graphics chip through WebGPU when it can, otherwise your processor). The model file and the AI runtime are downloaded to your browser like any other part of a web page; your picture travels the other way not at all. Nothing about the image, not its content, name or size, is reported back to us.
What you can choose to give us
Waitlist email. Some outputs (for example 16K) can't be produced in a browser yet. If you pick one, a form offers to notify you when it works. If you fill it in, we store your email address, the page and the output you picked, the use you selected from the list (such as printing or wallpaper), and a salted, one-way hash of your IP address that helps us spot automated spam. We don't verify the address and we send nothing except that one notice.
Emails to us. If you write to us, we keep the conversation so we can answer.
What the site records on its own
- Server logs. Our host processes your IP address, browser type and the pages you request, which every website needs to deliver pages and fend off attacks.
Cookies and local storage
We set no cookies. Your browser's local storage remembers whether you prefer the light or dark theme, and the browser may cache the model and runtime files so the next visit starts faster. Clearing this site's data removes all of it.
Services that help run the site
A few outside services are involved, each only for the job described:
- Cloudflare — hosts the site and the database that keeps waitlist emails; like any web host it sees your IP address when you connect.
- jsDelivr — delivers the open-source AI runtime (ONNX Runtime) your browser downloads to upscale images; like any download it sees your IP address, but never your image.
We share information only when the law requires it or to prevent fraud or harm. We don't sell personal information and don't use it for advertising.
How long things are kept
- Your images and results: never stored by us; they live in your browser tab until you close it.
- Waitlist entries: until we have sent the notice for that feature, or until you ask us to remove yours, whichever comes first.
Your rights
Email us and we will tell you what we hold about you, give you a copy, correct it or delete it. We reply within 30 days. Depending on where you live (for example the EU, the UK or California), you may have further rights, including complaining to your data protection authority.
Children
Image Upscaling is for people aged 13 and over. Anyone younger should not join the waitlist; if we learn that a child has, we delete the entry.
Security
The site is served only over HTTPS. Waitlist entries sit in a database that only the site's operators can reach, and IP addresses are stored only as salted hashes.
Where data is processed
Our host and the file-delivery network run servers in many countries, so the little data described here may be processed outside your own country.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes too. If we ever start handling your images differently, we will announce it on the site first.
